Bastrop County Municipal Court Warrants
Bastrop County has three city courts. A municipal warrant grows out of a city's own ordinance, traffic, or Class C case, and Bastrop, Elgin, and Smithville keep separate records and payment procedures. The sheriff's most-wanted page is not a city docket. A county case search may not show a city warrant either. The issuing court controls payment, resets, recall, and bond instructions. These city courts sit apart from the four JP courts, even where their service areas overlap. Start with the city written on the citation, then ask the clerk which record and status applies.
Bastrop County Municipal Warrants: Three City Courts
Bastrop County's three city courts each do things their own way. Bastrop explains two Class C warrant labels and offers name, citation, and license search choices. Elgin posts payment, bond, and timing rules. Smithville wants requests in writing and sets an appearance deadline.
| City court | Local route | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Bastrop | Municipal case/payment portal and court clerk | (512) 332-8650 |
| Elgin | Warrants page, City Hall Annex, payment instructions | (512) 281-0318 |
| Smithville | Court at City Hall, TrafficPayment, written response | (512) 237-3282, option 4 |
Population does not pick the court. A case from the city of Bastrop inside Bastrop County belongs to the municipal court, not automatically to JP1.
Checking a Municipal Court Warrant
Start with the court's own search page. Then call the clerk to confirm warrant status. Bastrop's portal takes a name plus date of birth, a citation plus date of birth, or a driver's-license number plus date of birth. Elgin links its payment service but posts procedural warnings rather than a public warrant table. Smithville links TrafficPayment but posts no separate public warrant list. If an online search fails, ask the city court whether the citation has been filed, what number format it uses, and whether a separate process entry exists. A blank result does not prove the warrant is gone. In Bastrop County, police are not the first stop for a court balance or appearance question. The city clerk answers those.

In Bastrop County, the search tabs are court and payment tools, not a countywide list of every municipal warrant.
Bastrop County Municipal Warrant Types
Bastrop Municipal Court calls an arrest warrant the consequence of failing to appear or respond on a Class C case. A capias pro fine comes after that. It follows an assessed fine and later noncompliance. Posted triggers also include an unfinished driving-safety-course or show-cause duty, a defaulted plan, and uncompleted community service. Notice is mailed, and added fees can result. In Bastrop County, the city's archived 2022 warrant report used AW and CP labels. Those are that report's abbreviations, not codes shared by every Bastrop County court.

For any specific citation in Bastrop County, ask the city clerk which warrant type and current court action apply.
Inside a Municipal Court Warrant
A city record can tie process to the citation, docket, offense, date, and balance. Bastrop's historical report carried a warrant number, type, status, issue fields, citation and violation, offense, and warrant balance. Treat it as a field example, not a current list. Elsewhere in Bastrop County, Elgin and Smithville post no matching layout.
| City and court | Identifies which municipal clerk controls the file. |
|---|---|
| Citation or docket | Connects the warrant to the ticket and case record. |
| Warrant type | May distinguish arrest warrant from capias pro fine. |
| Issue or status date | Ask what date and source the current entry reflects. |
| Balance | May omit court costs, collection charges, or bond amount. |
| Payment status | A receipt does not always equal a recall order or update in other systems. |
Bastrop County Elgin Municipal Warrant Route
Elgin Municipal Court sits in the City Hall Annex at 310 N. Main Street. Its published line is (512) 281-0318. The city cautions that online warrant payments may not process until the next business day, and an FTA program indicator can take up to 48 working hours to clear once all listed matters are resolved. Elgin takes no personal checks. Mail a money order, or pay in person with cash, a money order, or a cashier's check. A not-guilty plea needs a bond. That bond is set at double the judge's amount. Confirm current instructions with the clerk before relying on any of this in Bastrop County's Elgin cases.

Use the Elgin page for Elgin's process. The Bastrop court contact from elsewhere in Bastrop County is an example only, not an Elgin location.
Bastrop County Smithville Municipal Warrant Steps
Smithville's municipal-court handout gives you until the tenth working day to appear. A phone call does not count. Requests must be in writing. Payments run in person, by mail, by drop-box, online, by ACH, or through a phone vendor. Each method has its own fees. For a warrant question, call the court at (512) 237-3282, option 4, or visit City Hall at 317 Main. The police page lists its own agency contact but no police warrant search. Keep a court filing question away from the police desk in this Bastrop County city.
Bastrop County Municipal Warrant and BCSO Records
A municipal judge issues the process. A city officer serves it. The municipal clerk keeps the case. The payment route runs through the clerk too. BCSO Warrants, at (512) 549-5045 or (512) 549-5020, handles the county service side. The Sheriff page's Bluebonnet link is a curated Most Wanted program, not the city's docket. When a city result leaves a status question open, call that city court in Bastrop County. Use the county Sheriff contact only for its own service information or to get routed to the right office.

In Bastrop County, confirm any payment or recall with the issuing clerk rather than trusting a portal receipt to update every system.
How to Resolve a Municipal Court Warrant
Call the issuing court first and ask what comes next: payment, an appearance, a reset, a payment plan, a recall request, or bond. Bastrop County's 2025 amnesty closed on March 31, 2025. An old form from that program does not establish any relief today. Elgin's payment-plan form contains plea language. It also warns that noncompliance can lead to capias pro fine, so read it closely and ask the court or counsel before filing.
A city payment and a warrant recall are not always the same event. Ask which order or record will show that the warrant is cleared.
A Bastrop County city citation that also shows up in the Texas FTA/FTP tool needs a call to the reporting court about its update. The state tool is not a complete warrant database.
What the Bastrop County Municipal Clerk Can Confirm
The clerk can pull up case records, posted payment methods, and due dates. Ask about the process for a reset or a recall request. Confirm which record status is current. Also ask whether any fee or collection amount sits apart from the warrant balance. The clerk cannot advise you on how to plead. Legal advice stays with your lawyer.
